About Me
Hi, I'm Sheetal Toor, a professional artist based in Hertfordshire, UK. Welcome to my website!
Painting and drawing has always been a source of relaxation and fun for me. Creating something special from a blank canvas gives me a sense of pride and happiness that is hard to describe. There are no limitations when you are creating and that is something I value. Art is freedom.
Did you always know you wanted to be an artist?
I've always had a creative spirit and made sure I was involved in anything to do with art and drama at school, but I never really knew which path to follow. Having loved drawing and painting from a young age, I studied GCSE and A-level art. I enjoyed exploring movement with colour and had a fascination with animals. I spent most of my time experimenting with different mediums.
Did you pursue art after school?
When the time came to choose a degree, I was unsure if I could make a creative path work for me and ended going to Aston University in Birmingham, to study Business, Computing and IT.
After working a year in industry I quickly realised that a 9 to 5 office job wasn’t for me and decided to pursue another passion of mine which was drama. After graduating, I went on to do a post-graduate acting course at Drama Studio London.
For 10 years I enjoyed a dual life, working as an actress (mainly in theatre) and as a part-time IT and Web Consultant.
So where does the art come into all of this?
In 2020, when the global pandemic forced the country into lockdown, I needed a creative outlet, so I dusted off my art supplies and started to draw again. My instinct was to draw animals - I love them - and I wanted to find a connection to the outside world whilst being stuck indoors.
Before I knew it, I had built a website and started working on various pet and wildlife artworks for friends and family. I am now proud to say that I have been working as professional artist and managing my own business for almost 4 years now and I am enjoying every minute.
I feel so lucky that I have rediscovered my passion for painting and drawing. I still take on the odd acting job from time to time, but I have hung up my consultancy hat so I can channel my time and energy into my artwork.
When did you start the sport and hobby art?
In May 2022, I was commissioned to paint a portacabin for a five-a-side football club. Whilst painting on site, I had so many children come up to me asking if I could paint them - this made me wonder how I could achieve this without charging for a commission.
I spent a long time testing and trialing new designs and techniques, when finally something clicked.
I am now focusing my creative time on building a collection that will hopefully have something for everyone. I want people to feel inspired to follow their dreams.
Visualisation is the act of forming a picture in your mind of something you want to achieve, in the belief that doing so will make it more likely to happen. I am hoping my artwork can serve as a tool to help children visualise themselves achieving what they want and hopefully start them on their journey.
